In the fast-paced, technology-driven world, finding moments of peace and serenity can be challenging. At Kokiville we have found a remedy that can restore well-being and reconnect us with the natural world – nature bathing. Also known as forest bathing or ‘shinrin-yoku’, this practice involves immersing ourselves in nature and allowing its sights, sounds, and scents to nourish our senses. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the remarkable benefits of nature bathing and why it’s a practice worth embracing in our lives.
Better Stress Management:
We have found many studies that prove that Shinrin-yoku reduces stress levels and promotes healthy mental well-being. Nature bathing provides a serene environment that allows us to disconnect from the pressures of daily life, leading to decreased anxiety, improved mood, and increased relaxation. The calming effect of nature helps to alleviate symptoms of stress-related conditions, such as depression and insomnia. We have experienced this at Kokiville and have finally found a way of articulating our experience.
Boosted Immune System:
We did not know about this until we were researching further on the benefits, but it made so much sense to us, trees and plants release airborne chemicals called phytoncides, breathing in these natural compounds stimulates our immune system, enhancing its function and promoting overall health. Combined with stress reduction as above, nature bathing improves our resistance to illnesses. Gav and I have found that we are healthier for taking daily walks in nature.
Better Brain Health:
Nature bathing has been shown to improve cognitive function and attention span. Spending time in natural environments helps reduce mental fatigue and restores our ability to concentrate. The combination of fresh air, greenery, and natural stimuli provides a refreshing break for our brains, leading to increased creativity, productivity, and mental clarity. There is nothing better than a walk in the middle of the day when I need to think.
Connection and Mindfulness:
Nature bathing encourages us to slow down, be present, and truly engage with our surroundings. It enables us to develop a deeper connection with nature and appreciate its beauty. This practice fosters mindfulness, as we become more aware of our senses and the present moment. Connecting with nature on a regular basis promotes a sense of belonging and reminds us of our interconnectedness with the natural world. Having done a mindfulness course, nature makes an ideal space to teach others simple exercises to live a more mindful life.
Nature bathing is such an important part of the experience we are creating at Kokiville. We encourage guests to walk in nature daily and even offer picnic baskets as an option for our guests so that even in eating in nature is part of your Kokiville experience.
For us nature bathing is a simple yet transformative practice that has brought profound positive changes to our lives. So, visit us, step outside, breathe in the fresh air, and let Kokiville’s nature heal and embrace you.
